Someone dies, and he gets cunted off.

Some of our supporters.........not even Millwall did that.

That adds some perspective, eh?

Sometimes its best just to say nothing.

This interest rate. It went up from 7% to 8% during the course of this thread, right?

I didn’t like him much when he was alive, so I’m not gonna pretend I like him now. He bought West Ham primarily as an investment, and made loads of money from it by moving the OS and by charging 8% interest on loans. Nothing criminal about it, and not enough for people to hate him, but it nonsense to suggest he bought the club because of his love for West Ham. He did it to get even richer, and it was very successful.

👍

Very sad for his family, and of course I hope he rests in peace.

Crassus, yes mate remember that. I suppose my point is G&S are businessmen and I expect they had to be ruthless at times to get where they were especially in the game they were in. West Ham were just an extension of their business dealings but on a bigger scale. There are many businessmen who would have moved us to an Athletics Stadium and not blink an eye for a decent profit.

With G&S it was made worse because we were told what great lifelong fans they were/are and how they had all our best interest s at heart. But the stakes were much too high and the money took precedence, the club/supporters never entered their head. The older fans are most put out but we are dying off remembrance thread is testament. Sadly the younger fans some only will know the Athletics Stadium and all will be forgotten.

Once the deal was signed/done they tried to appease the fans with beer shelves, claret carpets and posters. Sticky plasters.

Gold maybe the richest bloke in the graveyard but his legacy along with the Oligarch Russian Wannabe Dwarf twat will stink Stratford out for decades if not generations.

Fair enough mate, you just seemed to be playing it down in that way.

Nah, I wasn't saying that. I said that they saw an opportunity and grasped it with both hands (or should that be one hand?). And they did the same when two football clubs were going cheap. Nothing like betting on roulette at all.

Er, yeah, exactly. It was you who was making it sound like they lucked out.

The geezer come from a council estate to become a self made billionaire. You have to be an absolutely outstanding business brain to do that.

Making money at his level is constant brutal pursuit of profits and reinvesting wisely. You want to start with products or services you believe gan grow a customer base. Truly hard work.

Not sure why you're trying to equate opportunism with high stakes gambling. If anything it's the complete opposite.

I don't care how anyone does it, to become a Billionaire from nothing in the era Sullivan did it, you have to be an absolutely astounding businessman.

You've got to be a right snob to have the hump they got their money through porn.

One of my pensions is high risk, with the money being invested into porn, drugs and guns.

I'm quite proud of how the value has increased in the years I've had it.

"What I would say about it is that while some think that the money they made shows that they are astute businessmen the reality is that they were simply opportunists"

An opportunist Billionaire. Blimey.

You make it sound like he sold his house and stuck the money on 24 red.

I just think most people with a certain huge amount of gained wealth are capable of doing whatever it needs to get richer....comparisons are futile....it's whatever opportunities arise for them to take and how easily they can get away with it.

Re: David Gold - RIP - 1936-2023
In fairness Gold & Sully have never taken a wage out of the club, proper decent owners..... bullshit, and they kindly only charged 8% interest while ensuring we remained having a debt so they continued fleecing the club, proper ars*holes
